01 about
Joumana Abdelkhalek: Designer, Maker, Future-Thinker

Joumana is an experimental architect& computational designer exploring the crossroads of architecture, computation, and bio-material innovation. With a deep curiosity for how life, matter, and form intertwine, she designs futures where buildings breathe, skins adapt, and spaces evolve like living ecosystems.

In 2023, she was awarded the Emirati Futurism Award, recognizing her visionary approach and her ability to imagine and prototype what comes next.

As a PhD candidate and educator, Joumana leads students through visionary studios, from conceptual futuristic stores and pavilions to speculative “Second Skin” experiments with mycelium and bioplastics. She thrives on experimentation, pushing boundaries between digital workflows and material realities.

Whether she’s teaching parametric design, founding labs like MatterMinds or Computational Design Lab, or dreaming up futuristic habitats with Humans 2.0, Joumana designs not only for function but for an imaginative, resilient future that blurs discipline lines.

Bold. Curious. Radical.
Joumana is not just designing spaces; she’s here to design the future.
